Alcove

The unit comprises a well-equipped kitchen, a large bedroom, two bathrooms with showers, and a roomy veranda leading off the kitchen.

Sleeping Arrangements

  • The Bedroom is a multi-sleeper that sleeps up to 4 people.
    • It has 2 single beds & a bunk bed (built to accommodate adults).
      • Please note: The 2 single beds can be swopped for a queen bed if required. Arrangements will need to be made at the time of booking.

Bathrooms

  • 1  ensuite to bedroom.
  • 1 Guest bathroom adjacent to the kitchen.

Please note: Each bathroom consists of a shower, basin, and a (flushing) toilet. However, only the bedroom (ensuite) bathroom has HOT WATER (via our gas geyser). The hot water is only available in the evenings when the generator is on due to the gas geysers requiring a pressure boost.  The toilets make use of a septic tank and care should be taken when using these, as highlighted below.

Kitchen

The kitchen is well equipped and has ample storage space.

Fridges:

The unit is equipped with gas powered freezers.

  • 1x210l gas freezer
  • 1x250l gas fridge/freezer combo

Please note: For best use of our freezers, patrons must spread their meat and other items between the freezers rather than packing a freezer to the brim. We advise adding beverages to the freezers as and when needed.

Lighting

A 12v DC solar system provides lighting to the lodge. The generator supplies power for additional (AC) lighting in the evenings and charging of electronic equipment (i.e. torch batteries, laptops, phones etc.). The generator is switched on for 2hrs every evening (07:00pm – 09:00pm).

BRAAI AREA

A portable braai & potjie stand is available for use. The braai stand (if required) is placed in the covered veranda area, adjacent to the kitchen, where patrons can chill and relax whilst enjoying an outdoor cooked meal.

SERVICE STAFF

Our helpers (Elizabeth & Eric) provide housekeeping and yard maintenance services. Their costs form part of the daily rate. Elizabeth is renowned for her baked bread and fat cakes, so don’t forget to bring the relevant ingredients. She is also excellent at making breakfasts, but prior arrangements are necessary to source an additional helper for housekeeping services.

Service times:
  • Elizabeth services the unit between 08:00am and 12:00pm.
  • Eric is on duty from 07:30am to 09:00am & 05:30pm – 09:00pm.

 ADDITIONAL:

  1. The lodge provides Cutlery and Linen (sheet, pillow/case and duvet). Patrons can bring their own if preferred, including bath towels and blankets for added warmth during the winter months.
  2. Consumables to bring along include toilet paper, air freshener, matches, candles, bug spray, bin bags, flashlight, and hand wash detergent.
  3. Treated water is available from the taps installed along the road in the village and other locations. However, the supply is intermittent, particularly outside the rainy season, hence recommend that patrons bring their own bottled water for drinking.
  4. The showers, toilets and sinks draw rainwater from our water tanks.
  5. The lodge makes use of a septic tank, which is a sensitive system that easily blocks from objects discarded into it that do not break down easily. Examples include sanitary napkins, tampons, disposable nappies and similar products.
  6. There are shops in the village, but they sell the bare essentials, so please stock up appropriately before arriving. Should there be a need, the Ngcwanguba store carries a good range of products and is about a 60min drive from the lodge.
  7. You don’t need a 4×4 to get to our lodge except for the rainy season. A vehicle with higher clearance is ideal, but you can get to us in a small car but would need to take it very slow on the gravel/dirt road.
